Red Chinoiserie Chiming Mantel Clock, Japy Freres Movement, Circa 1920
An attractive early 20th century red Chinoiserie mantle clock, the swept top case decorated to the front with cranes and trees highlighted in gilt, the top decorated with an attractive fish scale pattern surmounted by a wooden finial with a Greek Key border, the sides with foliate decoration within a wavy gilt border with brass carry handles and supported on brass ogee feet.
The 4" inch enamel dial with brass bezel and Arabic numerals, the 8 day French Japy Freres movement striking the hours and half hours on a gong.
The case decoration is particularly attractive on this clock and this is the first clock I have handled which is decorated with cranes.
Chip to dial at 10 o'clock position which is hidden behind the bezel when the front door is closed.
Small shrinkage crack to case at 12 o'clock position.
The movement has been serviced by our qualified Horologist and is in perfect working order.
