Victorian Marine Oak Cased Wall Clock, Walsh Jones & Co, Melbourne, Circa 1854

Dimensions

Height 7 inches, Width 7 inches, Depth 4.5 inches.

Price

A scarce mid 19th century circular Marine oak cased wall clock of diminutive proportions, the brass dial with Roman numeral chapter ring and marked "Walsh, Jones Co. London".

The oak case diameter 17.8cm x depth 11cm.  Chain fusee English movement.

Walsh Jones & Co was a short-lived partnership in Melbourne in 1854-1855, between Henry S. Walsh (1806-1877), a Melbourne clock and watch maker and retailer, and Edwin Jones of Melbourne. The clock face gives the firm's address as London, but this was a common practice for Melbourne firms that were importing and retailing English made clocks.

This clock has been recently acquired in the UK and is in original unrestored condition having a wonderful aged patina.  My preference would be to maintain the patina whilst undertaking a limited conservation to clean and straighten the dial, replace missing dial screws and a service of the movement.  However, we can undertake a full clean in our workshops should the buyer prefer.
